How to wash knitwear without ruining it
Marta Coelho
Head of Styling
Most knitwear is not ruined by wear. It is ruined in the ten minutes after it comes out of the water. Here is the routine our studio uses.
Cold water, little soap
Fill a basin with cold water and a teaspoon of wool wash. Press the garment under and leave it for ten minutes. Do not rub.
No wringing
Lift it out supported from underneath, press the water out against the side of the basin, then roll it in a towel.
Dry it flat
Lay it on a dry towel, shape the shoulders by hand, and leave it away from direct heat. A hanger will stretch the shoulders within an hour.
